Modern Combat 5: Blackout update rolling Dec 17th with two classic maps, holiday extras and on sale for $3.99

Gameloft is going to have a pretty big day tomorrow. We know they will be launching Brothers in Arms 3: Sons of War, but we also now know they will be releasing a fairly substantial update for Modern Combat 5: Blackout as well. This, to the best of my knowledge, is the first major update for the title since its release in July. While there have been fixes in the past, this one actually brings in more than just some bug squashing and brings in new maps and more.

Modern Combat 5 Blackout

When the update goes live tomorrow you will get two new maps to battle it out on multiplayer. They are new to Modern Combat 5, but long time supporters and player of the series will remember them from Modern Combat 3 and Modern Combat 4. From MC4 Gameloft is bringing back the Overtime map, which was set in an office building lobby. From MC3 they are bringing back Scramble, which was a map that took place on an abandon airport hanger. Players will also be able to vote on the next map to battle it out on between matches.

  • There are now going to be 5 solo and squad leagues: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond. The leagues will rank out on a leader-board and players will earn rewards for taking tops spots.
  • Squad battles will be getting a new ability too. When a Squad Battle match is over, you will now be able to have a rematch via the Rematch button.
  • Each soldier class will get a new area effect skill. Assualt gains 10% increased damage, Heavy gets 10% less damage, Recon picks up 10% increased movement speed and Sniper picks up 50% less time visible on the mini-map. All of the effects are limited amounts of time, of course.
  • Level caps have been increased from 100 to 120.
  • Holiday treats: The Rooftop map will get a blizzard for the holidays. Specific posters and props will grace various muliplayer maps. There will be a special Santa skin for VIP player and there will be “Jingles” activated on specific maps, during matches and at the end of matches.
  • Battle packs will be able to be earned as rewards in-game or you can purchase them on your own. Battle packs will offer up random items like masks, kill signs, XP boosters or Pro Weapons.

As mentioned up top, the update that brings all this insanity to the palm of your hand will go live tomorrow, December 17th for all current owners of the title. If you have not picked up Modern Combat 5: Blackout and would like to, you should wait until tomorrow as Gameloft is telling us it will be on special for $3.99.
