Motorola XOOM and Nexus S at the end of the line, no official Android 4.2 Coming

The problem with technology is the speed at which it moves. New devices, new hardware, new software and the ultimate knowledge of knowing that eventually your device won’t be officially support any more. It is a frustrating feeling, but one that is inevitable. A recent statement from Jean-Baptiste Queru during the news about Android 4.2 landing in AOSP made some of those thoughts a reality.

-There is no support for 4.2 on Nexus S and Xoom. Those devices should
continue using 4.1.2.

Looks like the Wi-Fi XOOM and the Nexus S are being relieved of Google updates officially and will be stuck on Android 4.1.2. Of course that just means that Google won’t be pushing out any more updates to these devices. That doesn’t mean that the devices are dropped from developer support. WE all know that CM10 and AOKP will help keep them alive and rocking well beyond their expected life span. We are guessing that many of you are already on that path anyways.

He didn’t offer up any specific reason as to why they aren’t supporting them any longer. We suspect that it is either because they are so old that Google needs to move forward to newer devices, or that they don’t run Android 4.2 to Google’s standards. Either way, it is sad news for those still rocking these devices. Maybe it is time to upgrade anyways. If you feel like crying, the perfect song is below for you to weep too.
