Mplayer Ported to Android

Movie player apps are abound in the Android market. Some have worked better then others. Some are free and some are paid, and both have their own set of issues per device. This latest port of Mplayer to Android by ajeet17181, is no different. Judging by the comments in the thread on XDA, some people are having great success with the application and others are not. Here’s a look at what it can do for you.

You can see it is nothing super special. The initial launch shows you your current folders to search through to find your movie file. Select your file and it will play. Pretty straight forward and simple. The video quality looks really clear. The application also supports subtitles. There is a separate download required for the subtitles to work. If you run into downloaded content that comes with a subtitle file, this will work well for you.

A gripe I have found in the thread is directed at the on screen controls, they stay up through the whole movie. If you hit your menu key on the device, the player controls do vanish from the screen.

I know for a fact AVI and XVid files work flawless and the player should easily play all other video formats too. The only current file type that is reported to be non functioning for now are h.264 files.

If you are looking for a new player that supports more formats, you can’t go wrong here. You can pick the file up through the XDA-Developers thread
