My Initial Thoughts on the HTC EVO 4G

I know I haven’t written much on the HTC EVO 4G, however I wanted to go through the phone and get a good idea of all the features, flaws and etc. I would like to start off by saying that I think overall the phone is very nice and one of the best design’s I have seen. I think HTC keeps outdoing themselves each time with these “super phones”.

Let’s start with the design. The design is very appealing to the eye with both sleekness and attitude. It has four touch menu keys which work great and has a very decent “kickstand” which I use everyday. I will note that the phone is very uncomfortable to talk on as the rough edges near the ear piece are very course, and that pretty much wraps up the design.

When you first setup your phone the UI is very fast, stable, and responsive, however as I have continued to use the device I will say I am hugely disappointed. I don’t know if I got a bad phone out of the batch but my phone locks up constantly, force closes, SD card won’t read which was pointed out in another post, and has become very frustrating. I have to restart my phone around 5-7 times a day. After the restart it works fine for a bit but then it happens all over again. I really hope that my device I received at Google I/O was just a defect because if all these phones do this then there are going to be a bunch of upset people.

I have used many phones in the past and I have not yet had this many issues with a handset, but as I said, lets just hope it is a bad one in the bunch.

Battery life is standard on this phone I believe. I have owned the Nexus One and I would say it is pretty comparable to that device. I do think that the phone manufacturers should look more into battery life though as millions of American’s count on their phone everyday, but that’s another topic though.

Overall I think the phone is good, however many issues need to be fixed to be even considered as good as the Nexus One in my eyes, and that’s counting all the Nexus One issues.

Are you getting the EVO? Do you have the EVO? What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below.
