Mystery HTC prototype device turns up in San Francisco Restaurant – What do we have Here?

You’d think people would learn from past mistakes. Remember back when that iPhone 4 was found in a bar in Redwood City, California before it was even officially unveiled? Well it looks like HTC is the latest victim of the “I lost my prototype” bug, or at least it appears that way after this mystery device turned up in the lost and found of a San Francisco restaurant.

Spotted by Droid-Life, the device is plastered with serial numbers and has a semi-transparent back, and was first believed to be a prototype of the HTC Incredible 2, but those theories were quickly laid to rest after the discovery of a few dissimilarities, such as the prototype device featuring a non-removable battery, in contrary to the Inc 2, which we all know comes with a removable battery. Additionally, the volume rocker is on the opposite side of the prototype than that of the Inc 2, while the prototype has another unidentified toggle of sorts on the charging side.

Adding to the mystery, whoever lost the phone at least paid enough attention to realize that the device was missing and remotely wipe it. By the time of its discovery, a “No System Software” and the emergency dialer were all that was visible.

Anyone care to take a stab?
