New $25 international data plan gives Verizon customers 100MBs while Traveling

Roaming charges on our various carriers is one of the largest thorn in the sides of many business travelers and vacationers from the U.S. Taking a fun-filled weekend Cruise can easily set a person back a few hundred bucks if their device is left on and is not even used. Being a former T-Mobile employee, I have seen it happen often. People forget about their Twitter feeds, Weather Apps, Emails, Facebook updates and many other aspects of their device that automatically connect and pull data. While roaming outside of the U.S. will always be an issue, it looks like Verizon is attempting to help out a little bit at least.

Their latest data plan offering gives you 100MBs of data for $25. International data plans are nothing new to Verizon or their customers. They have been offering a tired plan for some time. Previously it was $30 for 50 MBs, $75 for 150MB or $125 for 300MB. The new plan will clear out the 50MB option, double your data and save you $5 in the process. You still need to watch your P’s and Qs though. Once you hit that 100MBs you will rack up charges. They explain the rates are $0.005 per KB, Sounds low doesn’t it? Well, that translates into $5.12 per 1MB. Which is easily achievable if you are a heavy data using individual. We don’t suggest streaming Netflix or watching YouTube videos while on vacation outside the U.S. The data rates drop slightly if you are headed to Canada, $0.002 per KB, or about $2 per MB.

No matter how you look at it, people take trips. Be it for business, for pleasure or for both. Sometimes you need to spend a little to get a little. It sure beats the $5000 bill I have seen for kids watching Netflix while on vacation in the Caribbean, silly kids.

Customers can learn more about the new plan here. Verizon’s global tech support team can be reached at no cost by dialing 908-559-4899 and the appropriate exit code for the country where the call originates.
