Nexus Watch: The Rumours Keep Rolling About The Nexus 5

nexusEarlier this month, we caught wind from Taylor Wimberly that Motorola would be making a Nexus device that wasn’t the Moto X, which immediately rekindled conversation regarding the Nexus 5. Talk of the Nexus 5 had died down significantly since the original rumours that LG was making it, but this definitely got people thinking about it again. I even went as far as suggesting that LG was still making the Nexus 5 and the Motorola Nexus was in fact a refreshed Nexus 4, much like the 2013 Nexus 7. The poll that accompanied that article showed that opinions were generally divided, though the rumour that Motorola would be making the Nexus 5 still seemed the most popular.

This week the rumour mill started turning again when it was suggested that the Nexus 5 would still be coming from LG, and feature a more standard button arrangement. It was also purported then that the 5-inch Nexus would have a Snapdragon 800, as the LG G2 does, and many similar characteristics of the Nexus 4, such as an off-centre camera and glass back. All this pointed to a LG Nexus 5, and Motorola Nexus 4 refresh, that is until the lord of leaks, evleaks, weighed in this morning.

On his Twitter account, evleaks posted a picture of a LG Optimus L9 II and suggested that the phone that was rumoured to be the Nexus 5 coming from LG was actually this L9 II, and that the next, sole Nexus device would be made by Motorola. So we’re back to square one with conflicting rumours and nothing solid. All we can hope for is some leaked photographic evidence to swing the rumours one way or the other.

What do you think is happening here: is the Nexus 5 being made by LG or Motorola? Tell us what you think in the comments.
