There are millions of people around the globe that know the name NianticLabs@Google. Not so much for the Field Trip app, but more so for Ingress. However, they launched Field Trip prior to the game that took over the world.
Field Trip is a quite type background app that uses your travel and location to point out interesting information in close proximity to where you are. It pulls in info for 9 different categories;Â Architecture, Historic Places & Events, Lifestyle, Offers & Deals, Food Drinks & Fun, Movie Locations, Outdoor Art and Obscure Places of Interest around you. It pulls the data from publications like Sunset, Zagat, Obscura and others. It really is a cool app to have installed if you leave your house more than once a month.
Today Field Trip picked up a new update that brought in some great new additions. They had to give Ingress development a break and think outside of the Enlightened for a little while. There is new content rolling in from Art Nerd New York, Cultureist, Mad Girl Eats, Weekend Sherpa, Wilderness Press and many others. Notifications have been improved to let you swipe an unlock slider to lock it, dismiss it or snooze it. A new configuration has been added that keeps the screen off and just makes the alert sound and another new configuration offers up the option to get notifications via standard Android notifications.
If you have Field Trip installed already, go pick up the update for more great information from leading outlets. If you haven’t given it a shot, you really should Only if you like interesting information about things around you and great places to eat.
