As Android fans, we’ve toyed with the idea of a Nokia manufactured Android smartphone for some time now – we did get the Nokia X, but with its forked version of Android and budget performance, it wasn’t exactly what we envisioned. According to Nokia’s agreement with Microsoft, the outfit is unable to put out a smartphone until Q4 2016, however Nokia could be preparing something behind the scenes already. A certain Nokia 1100 smartphone was spotted performing a benchmark sporting a quad-core MediaTek processor clocked at 1.3GHz, but the device was undeniably running Android 5.0.
While it’s not quite the dizzying performance we were expecting from our fantastical Nokia device, it’s still a step in the right direction compared to the cheap-and-dirty Nokia X, and there’s no telling if this is the end of Nokia’s experimentation. If anything, we’re hoping that we get at least one device that is equivalent to the utterly brilliant Nokia N1 tablet that was released late last year. Frankly, as long as it runs closed to pure Android and doesn’t look like it’s namesake, we’ll be happy – for those who don’t know, the original Nokia 1100 looked like this:
