Barnes and Noble’s line of Nook HD tablets are getting access to the entire collection of apps found in the Google Play store with the newest update. Prior to the update, users were confined to a selection of apps found in the Barnes and Noble store.
The Barnes and Noble store will remain intact, but will bring in the new addition of Google Play apps, marking B&N apps with an ‘N’. Users will also get access YouTube, Google Maps, the Chrome browser and Gmail.
While the updates will not be coming to the original Nook, the Nook HD and HD+ will stand a better chance of competing with Amazon Kindle Fire HD, which currently doesn’t have built-in access to Google’s apps.
The updates will be rolling out over the next 48 hours, but users can also visit the Barnes and Noble website to download the updates manually.
