Xiaomi is a pretty large smartphone manufacturer over seas. They have particularly done well in China, India, Taiwan and Singapore. The Xiaomi devices run a custom build of Android called Mi. Mi ROM’s have been around for quite a while and has found its way onto a number of my previous devices. It is easily customizable, but more than anything, the OS builds always had tremendous battery life. Unfortunately Xiaomi devices just aren’t easily accessible here in the states. Sure, you can get one shipped in, but you can’t just head down to your local best Buy and pick one up. Xiaomi is in the first set of small, very small, steps to get into the US with an online store on the horizon for US customers to order from.
Don’t go grabbing your credit card just yet though. The online store won’t be pulling in unlocked smartphones and tablets, rather they plan to start off with accessories. Hugo makes mention of some Hi-Fi stereo headphones as one example. In a nut shell accessories that don’t need certifications and as much testing as a device would. The first step will help Xiaomi get their name and branding in the states as well as help provide valuable feedback on products. As Hugo also mentioned, it would help the sales globally as many other locales look to the voices of the US when considering a purchase.
