[Review] Bluedio DF200 Stereo Bluetooth Headset Receiver

We have all seen Bluetooth Speakers, Bluetooth Headphones, Bluetooth Earbuds and Bluetooth receivers of various sorts. Often times there are various Bluetooth devices that one could buy for various operations. For instance there is the Braven 625s. It is a rugged battery backup/Bluetooth speaker set up. Or the Jawbone ICON HD Bluetooth headset for listening to music and taking calls. We have even seen some that are dedicated to be a receiver for streaming music from your device to a stereo system, like the Kanex AirBlue. They all serve some sort of purpose and all of them are great in their own right. We have stumbled upon something new. Well, maybe not completely brand new, but definitely new to us and we have yet to see anyone else show off this amazing little device.

Meet the Bluedio DF200. This is one of a couple various products put out by Bluedio and easily the better looking one, in our opinion. However, not the most functional. We won’t get side tracked on other products though, let’s start off with what’s in the box with the Bluedio DF200.

  • Bluedio DF 200
  • Stereo Headphones
  • USB to Micro USB cord
  • User Manual

That is all you get and is really all you need. They don’t include a wall plug of any kind, which isn’t a big deal since we all have a few various charging ports floating around our houses and PC’s.

The Bluedio DF 200 is a Bluetooth receiver. It offers up the standard 10 meter, or 30 foot, range that is notorious for connection distance. It quickly and easily pairs up with any Bluetooth capable device in a matter of seconds. Before we get into the true benefits of why we love this little guy, let’s have a look at what controls and options are available on it.

On the front you will find a black shiny front plate that offers up your volume up and down buttons and next and previous track buttons. On one side of the device you have a MultiFunction button and a standard headphone in jack. On the left side of that you have your micro USB charging port and on the opposite side of that you have a mic hole. On the rear of the device you have a small clip that allows you to clip it to your shirt, collar, tie, bill of your hat or anywhere else you deem it necessary.

The standard controls on the front do everything you would expect them to. Including changing tracks while listening to music and adjusting the volume accordingly. The MultiFunction button on the side offers up a few purposes. Hence the term ‘MultiFunction.’ You will hold this button down for a period of time to turn it on and put in paring mode. While the DF 200 is on and paired, you can press this button to pause or play a song. It also functions as an answer key and hangup key for phone calls.

I know, you are probably thinking, “What’s the big deal?” That is sort of what I thought at first too. It just looked like something that could come in handy so I wanted to review it for mytrednyphone. It wasn’t until I received it that I discovered just how useful and great this little guy is. You aren’t limited to the headphones they send you in the box. That is a good thing because they are rather uncomfortable. Instead, you can plug-in any set f headphones you own. Be it a fancy pair of Beats by Dre, a nice in-ear pair that you love and fits perfectly or your old ratty ones from College. The point is, it doesn’t matter. Since the Bluedio is a receiver that also has a mic on it, it will turn any set of headphones or ear-buds into a Bluetooth wireless headset for you. I have connected every pair of headphones I have in the house to this little guy and was able to talk to people as if they had inline mics on them, most of which did not. Right there is an instant selling point in my book for two main reasons.

  1. Bluetooth headsets and headphones are often uncomfortable and some lack the ability to talk on the phone with and are limited to only music.
  2. I could use any headphones I wanted at the time and not have to be connected directly to my device.

You know where the rest of this review is leading right? Home stereo’s and in-car use. For home stereo use you would need to be able to connect a headphone to RCA (most likely) cable to your home stereo system. I have an old stereo head unit that I connected this to it and it sounded just fine. Of course I had to stay with in 30 feet of it for it to sound good. As for in a car, we don’t suggest you toss on a set of high-end headphones while you drive, but many newer head units have an inline jack. Plug this puppy into that and you can use your car stereo for streaming music from your device without the need for a cable and even be able to use it as a Bluetooth car speakerphone. I have yet to try this aspect out as I have an old stereo in my car, but I would imagine that it would work out just fine. I have tried out its ability on my home stereo system and was even able to take calls. Now I did have to turn down the volume and get a little closer to the receiver for them to hear me, but it still worked. Check out my unboxing along with a short review and spiel about the product.

I am really struggling to find a down side to the unit. The only issue I ever experienced was an odd tone that my device made when a message was received. It was the normal notification sound that I use, but it was a bit stuttery. Only on the my phone though, not on the sound coming through to my headphones or speakers. I also noticed that it didn’t happen all the time, but intermittently. It is not really a big issue since all the rest of the audio functions perfectly through all speakers and headphones.

Think this product is right up your alley? We sure as heck thought so. Especially since it is Bluetooth compatible. That opens up the world for all devices, not to mention the 3.5mm headphone jack for output. So many wonderful things one could use this for. You can order them directly from our friends at mytrendyphone. That is the direct link to the same white one I got for my Galaxy S III, gotta keep the color configurations, right? One of these guys from them will set you back 23.80 GBP or $38.27 USD. Yes, they make good iPhone 5 Accessories too.
