PSX4Droid: Android’s First Playstation Emulator Now Available

A few weeks ago I reported that ZodTTD and yongzh were nearly finished with their release of PSX4Droid application, a Playstation emulator for higher- end Android devices. I’m happy to share the news that the application was recently released to the Android Market. I already have purchased it and tested out some games to see how well it works. Let me tell you, it works extremely well. This is the first release of PSX4Droid and I’m highly confident that there will be a lot more development on this application to come.

So far I have played only a couple of games just to test out how it functioned; Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy Tactics and Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed. The Final Fantasy games all played just fine. The Need For Speed seemed a little slow, but I also don’t remember how it felt on an original PS1 . The screen wasn’t visually lagging. With all the new consoles for gaming I own, it could very well be that the game was just that way originally.

I have taken a few screen shots of Final Fantasy IX to share.

I tested this on my Samsung Vibrant and it ran beautifully. I plan to test it on the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide and the Garminfone soon since they have slightly slower processors than the Vibrant or Nexus 1. Reports have come in that it runs great on the Nexus One so you should have no issues there. I can’t vouch for other devices at this time.
