Qualcomm kicks off Augmented Reality Developer Competition, now accepting Submissions

Qualcomm is looking to expand Augmented Reality technology and they need your help. Now accepting submissions for their Augmented Reality Developer Competition, Qualcomm is looking for developers to create applications using AR technology to develop real-world applications, check out their description of the competition below.

2010 Augmented Reality Developer Challenge

Qualcomm is on a mission to help developers build fun, useful, exciting AR apps. That is why we’re hosting the first ever Augmented Reality Developer Challenge with $200,000 in total prize money. Games, educational apps, media & marketing tools, instructional manuals – You’re only limited by the scope of your imagination (though you must of course use the Qualcomm AR SDK to build the app).

If you’re looking to offer you smarts and join in the competitive fun, be sure and grab the SDK and when you think you’ve developed the ultimate application, you can submit it here in hopes of taking home one of the top three prizes. For more information, check out the Timeline and Rules below, now get to work.

TIMELINE

  • October 4, 2010: Augmented Reality SDK available for download.
  • November 15, 2010: Site for submission of entries opens.
  • January 7, 2011: Site for submissions closes and judging begins.
  • February 7, 2011: Winners selected by judges.
  • February 14, 2011: Winners publicly announced.

RULES & ELIGIBILITY

The AR Challenge requires that the Qualcomm AR SDK be used for the detection and tracking components of your app, but no other restrictions on other tools that you can use are contemplated.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The AR Challenge is only for AR software applications and not AR hardware. To be considered for the Challenge, your application must run on at least one of the commercially available, off-the-shelf Android devices that the Qualcomm AR SDK supports. The device must not require any custom hardware or any hardware additions or modifications to a commercially available Android device.
