Qualcomm talks about the impressive X12 LTE modem in the Snapdragon 820

Qualcomm sounds like its pretty excited about the Snapdragon 820 processor – with each passing week, they’ve been revealing more details of their upcoming powerhouse, and naturally, we like what we see. This week, it’s time to hear about the X12 LTE modem in the Snapdragon 820, which Qualcomm says contains new LTE and Wi-Fi technology, and will be the “first commercially announced mobile processor to support LTE Category 12 download speeds of up to 600 Mbps, LTE Category 13 uplink speeds of up to 150 Mbps, and LTE in Unlicensed (LTE-U). I’m not going to go into the details of how exactly this technology works lest I embarass myself, but here are few videos to help illustrate what this means:

Something interesting that Qualcomm mentions in its technical ramblings is that they’ve made the X12 LTE modem smarter in terms of how it seamlessly switches between LTE and Wi-Fi – of particular use to those who use Wi-Fi calling a lot. Qualcomm has previously announced that we likely won’t be seeing devices with the Snapdragon 820 until H1 2016, which is still some time away but it sounds like it’s going to be worth the wait.
