Qualcomm teasing new Snapdragon 800 device to be announced at CES 2015

In 6 short days my flight will be landing in Las Vegas to get ready for CES 2015. It is unbelievable how close it all is. With a new year of gadgetry and devices to be had, it is inevitable that a series of new phones and tablets will be announced, and in many cases, rolled out. We know ASUS has a trick or two up their sleeves. Sony will be doing a few things and LG should be making an announcement or two as well. Inside those gadgets we have processors, so the processor manufacturers often poke and tease about devices that will be sporting their latest workhorse in a device. Qualcomm is giving what could be a hint at something that is coming at CES 2015 with a tweet about a “new Snapdragon 800 powered smartphone” that will be launching next week.

The image above was included in the tweet and certainly leads to lots of talks. I thought, just for a brief moment, that it could be the new ASUS ZenFone that they have been teasing, but the square button in the center doesn’t match up after looking back at the image and video from them. The general consensus is that we could be looking at render of the back of the LG G Flex 2. LG was supposed to be pushing out the second version of the flexible device this year, but with 2 days remaining, I think they are more likely to do it on stage during CES.

There is also a slight potential that it is a hint towards the LG device that is on the horizon to take on the Note 4, but I am not sold on that idea yet.

I find it a little interesting that Qualcomm chose to tweet what they did. They didn’t say it would be a new Snapdragon 800 series device, but a Snapdragon 800 device. If it is a Snapdragon 800 packed device I will have a hard time getting excited about it since the 801 and 805 are already here and Samsung is putting the 810 in the new LTE-A Tri-Band Note 4. The original LG G Flex packed the 800 processor, so it wouldn’t be a boost to its performance if they put the same processor in a followup device. Here is to hoping that it is meant to be an 800 series processor packing device and at least is a 805, but more hopeful for an 810.
