Frequent users of Reddit will know that there is not yet an official Reddit for Android app – not to say that what’s out there isn’t great already, it’s just that having an official app is cool to have, especially when you want to roll out new features. Well, the time for an official Reddit for Android app is almost here, but first the Reddit team is going to have a beta period which is going to let them know if they have something good on their hands. There’s now a live sign-up page where you can register your interest for the app – the sign-up page is going to be live from 11th Dec to the 18th Dec, though Reddit isn’t committing to a solid date for when the actual beta will begin. Here’s some inportant info as per the post on the Android sub-Reddit post:
What you need to know:
- Sign up for the beta will begin on 11 Dec 2015 at 11am PST and end on 18 Dec 2015 at 11am PST.
- You’ll need to sign up using this link. We’ll ask you a few questions regarding your frequency of usage, whether you’ve used Reddit on mobile before, etc. This is so we can make sure we’re including a variety of different types of users in the beta groups.
- We don’t yet have a firm launch date for the beta, but expect it sometime in the next month or two.
- Completion of the sign-up form does not guarantee that you’ll be selected to participate. We’ll only need a few thousand users for this first round, and with over 200M monthly active users, we can’t take everyone! We’ll do our best to give everyone who signs up
Obviously, given that there’s no set date for the beta to begin, it’s even less likely that there’s an actual date for the release of the Reddit for Android app, but at least we’ll hear about the progress this way.
