When Motorola started pushing updates to the Moto X and Moto G, it got people wondering about the DROID Turbo with Verizon. When the soak tests for the Moto X 1st Gen started floating around, it really got people wondering. Now it would seem there is an unofficial answer floating around from Motorola engineer Luciano Carvalho. Mr. Carvalho confirmed in a comment on a G+ post that Verizon would be leaping to the latest and greatest Android 5.1 version and skip all the in-between variants.
We could talk about it being due to the bugginess of other Android 5.0X iterations, but that wouldn’t be the reason Verizon is jumping to the top. No, Verizon wants it to sport Android 5.1 for, most likely, the same reason the Nexus 6 took so long to roll out, VoLTE. Yes, that HD Voice thing that is readily available in the Android 5.1 update that Google announced not long ago.
While hearing that the DROID Turbo will jump to the top of the pack is great and all, it still doesn’t tell us when it will be coming. Verizon needs to approve the update and load it up with Big Red apps before hand. That could be in the next few days, or the next few months. We will all have to wait and see when it does finally land.
