According to (reliable) sources at Google, Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie might not being making its debut at Google I/O next month.
Google is thinking of delaying the release of Key Lime Pie in order to help out OEMs, who are currently hard at work trying to get their devices updated to Jelly Bean 4.1. Â With most devices up to Ice Cream Sandwich (29.3%), and Jelly Bean catching up (23%) according to the Android Developer dashboard, OEMs are struggling to catch up with the latest and greatest software.
HTC have recently pushing out updates (albeit not 4.2), as have Samsung and Asus, and with most of the major devices running 4.0 and above, it shouldn’t really take too long for the OEMs to catch up.
If Google is just letting OEMs catch their breath, it’s only for 2-4 months, then we should be getting some Key Lime Pie goodness.
The Android 5.0 PDK is already available to Sony, as a known contributor of code to the Android Project, this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, and doesn’t mean there is a Sony Nexus in the works.
