[Rumor] Samsung looking at new 7-inch tablet to undercut Nexus 7 price Tag

Samsung
As many had predicted, Google’s partnership with ASUS to bring to the Nexus 7 to the masses for under $200 would shake up the tablet industry. Obviously not the iPad industry, that is a completely different beast. The Android tablet market could be heating up a little bit more very soon. Samsung is reportedly working to bring a new 7-inch Android tablet device to consumers in the first half of 2013. Not surprising at all, right? Except they are aiming for a price point of $149.99 to $199.99.

Specs on this ‘potential ‘ device are still scarce. We know they have an 8-inch Note on the way at Mobile World Congress. There is also the upcoming Galaxy S IV. Cause, well, it will happen.

We don’t see the need for Samsung to enter into the tablet arena with something aimed at the Nexus 7 or even Kindle Fire HD. It is a nice thought though. Being a long-term Samsung device user, I would consider picking one up. It all depends on what is housed inside and how competitive it is to the Nexus 7. Google set the bar pretty high for less expensive tablets in the market. Hell, Samsung could even take a monetary hit on sales vs cost and make a killing with some Galaxy S III and S IV cross syncing compatibility or even some killer accessory sales.

What are your thought? Should Samsung even be considering this approach, or stick to what they do best?

As for now, this sits in the rumor bin, but we wouldn’t put it past Samsung to get involved in a $200 tablet. Maybe this is aiming more towards the next Nexus tablet than an independent venture. Who knows. We will keep our eyes peeled though.
