The HTC Glacier isn’t entirely new. It was running around in the rumor mills back in June of this year. Since then, nothing has surfaced about this phone until now. Â Recently the device name appeared on the GLBenchmark 1.1 online database. The numbers look great on paper. The fastest HTC device available right now is the EVO 4G running at 516 frames. The HTC Glacier is pushing 1432 frames. That’s nearly 3 times as fast as the EVO 4G and just slightly outdoes the Samsung Vibrant.
I can make at least one conclusion from this and it is just my own personal opinion.
- Qualcomm released its dual-core snapdragon chip set to manufacturers for testing not that long ago. With HTC being a huge supporter and user of Qualcomm chips in their devices, it is highly possible that’s what this device would be running.
Over at alienbabeltech they have done some more investigating.
- The user that uploaded the results for this phone to GLBenchmark.com, used the username “mbibikâ€.  All his uploads have been HTC devices for T-Mobile USA.
- A quick search for “mbibik tmobile†brings up few results, one of which is this LinkedIn profile of “Mike Bibikâ€. He is a Senior Interaction Designer at T-Mobile USA.
It’s still unclear at this time if T-Mobile is getting this phone or not so keep it in your rumor folder for now. Also note that the HTC Glacier may have a T-Mobile name next time we hear about it. Is this the famed ‘Project Emerald’ or does T-Mobile have other tricks up their sleeves?
I’m curious about a few things though. 1st – could this possibly be the original name of the new leaks for the first HSPA+ phone T-Mobile is putting out soon? 2nd – Is it running at 1.2 GHz or 1.5 GHz?
Either way this would be a big win for T-Mobile. Seeing as how they launched the Android revolution with the now retired G1. Bringing in another super phone sure can’t hurt them. We will all just have to wait and see.
