I’ll be honest. I didn’t think the Galaxy Note would make it this long, with its massive 5.3 inch screen size. I thought it would meet the same fate of the Kin family way back then on Verizon, and be discontinued within a few months. But boy, was I wrong, and it has been wildly successful. So successful that its successor is currently in the making and could have a launch this October.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is supposedly going to have a quad-core processor, launch with Jelly Bean, better battery life and build quality, and a new kind of display technology called UBP, or unbreakable plane.
This new display technology is a shift from Samsung’s traditional OLED screen technology use, as UBP uses a polymer film to allow better, thinner, and lighter components. This new display will allow the Note to be even slimmer and free up space for the application processor and baseband core chip. Samsung is hoping that this new display technology will compete directly with the iPhone 5’s screen in October, and give them the competitive edge in the fast pacing smartphone market.
