Samsung Galaxy Round Is Official, Is Samsung Throwing A Curve-ball? [POLL]

samsung galaxy roundEarlier today, we were treated to a leaked photo of what was rumoured to be Samsung’s new curved smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Round. Those rumours have now been confirmed as Samsung has gone official with their announcement of the Galaxy Round, a 5.7-inch phablet that packs a 2.3GHz processor, 3GB of RAM, that curved 1080p Super AMOLED screen as well as radios that are capable of harnessing the LTE-A network in Korea. Unsurprisingly then, the Galaxy Round will be releasing in Samsung’s native Korea first in “luxury brown” and there has yet to be word on whether the phone will be seen anywhere else in the world.

Other key features of the Galaxy Round include a leather back, much like the newly minted Galaxy Note 3 as well as a 2,800mAh battery, which does seem a bit small given the Note 3 has a 3,200mAh battery with a similarly sized screen, though is marginally lighter than the Note 3 because of it. Samsung has also teased another feature of the Galaxy Round on Samsung Tomorrow in a video named the “Roll Effect”:

While this feature is definitely a nice innovation, obviously made possible by the highly touted curvature of the screen, the Galaxy Round seems like a novelty at best and a product of a curved-screen device race with LG at worst. An unfortunate fact of the matter is that the Galaxy Round is being released barely a month after the release of the Galaxy Note 3, and while it does equal its phablet brethren in many areas and has the added appeal of a curved screen, it falls short is several key areas, like battery-size and stylus support. And to top it off, at just over a million won, the Galaxy Round is priced about the same as the Note 3 in Korea.

An interesting phone to be sure. What are your thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy Round?
