Although Samsung is known for not releasing updates it seems as if the original Galaxy S, which has already seen a Gingerbread update, now has source code available. As usual we’ve seen numerous leaks rolling out as the journey to an official Gingerbread update came to an end. Also in usual fashion the Galaxy S is the only device that we’ve seen said firmware leaks for, as nothing has rolled out for anything in the US (with the exception of Froyo, Yay?).
Could this be a similar incident to that of the Vibrant and Galaxy S 4G, where we have a new flagship coming out and the current updates are being held until it hits to ensure that sales go as planned? Who knows. I can honestly say I’m a fan of Samsung devices, as I believe you buy the hardware not the company, and I’m perfectly happy flashing whatever I have to to ensure my experience is my own and not one provided to me after months of debate.
Although it’s unlikely to see much from this source code on the CDMA Galaxy S line it’s likely the GSM variants will see added improvements to go along with the plethora of ROMs available. A copy of the source can be found on the Samsung Open Source website by searching for “i9000”. Have fun! =)
