Samsung Galaxy S4 in Australia will cost $899 outright, out April 27th

Samsung Galaxy S4

In an interview with CNET Australia, vice president of telecommunications at Samsung Electronics Australia, Tyler McGee, announced that the Australian variant of the Samsung Galaxy S4 will cost $899 at their retail stores.

The Australian Galaxy S4, like the US variant, is actually a little different to the international version; the international version will be powered by the frankly knee-buckling “octa-core” Exynos 5 processor, while the Australian S4 will instead have a quad-core Snapdragon 600 clocked to 1.9GHz. There is a minor performance difference between them, but the primary reason for the differing CPUs is due to the availability of LTE services in Australia and the US (go us!) and the increased battery consumption when using LTE.

As you’d expect, the Samsung Galaxy S4 will also be available from all the big telcos, Telstra, Optus and Vodafone. None have detailed their plans yet, however it is expected that they will be announced before the release date on the 27th of this month.

Personally I think $899 is a pretty steep price and probably another example of the price hikes that occur when devices cross the Pacific Ocean. Are you an Aussie and would you still pick one up outright at that price? Let us know below.
