The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge was a wonderfully innovative product. This wasn’t to say that it was perfect – the lack of optimization during general use was disappointing – but the mere fact that Samsung tried something new, and that it was interesting, was intriguing enough. It looks like Samsung is going to continue in this vein of innovation with another device that will feature a curved edge display – or rather, two curved edges. Yes, rumour has it that a Samsung Galaxy S6 variant, being tentatively called the Galaxy S6 Edge, is going to feature two of the curve edges that featured on the Note Edge.
Like the Note Edge alongside the Galaxy Note 4, the Galaxy S6 Edge is said to be announced alongside the Galaxy S6 at MWC 2015. While most of the Note Edge functionality will return, some additional features like being able to customize it based on your preferred hand, a notification feature that will light up the edges, as well as customization to change the edge’s behaviour when messages and calls are inbound. It’s definitely an interesting concept, and we’ll have to see whether Samsung is able to optimize the two curved edges so that they aren’t just wasted screen space when using non-optimized apps.
