We’re expecting quite a lot from the Samsung Galaxy S6 seeing as it’s been rumoured that Samsung took the device back to the drawing board to try and recapture its lost 2014 sales. While we’re expecting at least something innovative to pop up during Samsung‘s inevitable announcement at MWC 2015, it looks according to SamMobile, we might be seeing something a little familiar too. It’s alleged that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will have a touch-based fingerprint sensor, not unlike those seen on the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 and the ones seen on the iPhones of late.
The Galaxy S5 did have a fingerprint sensor integrated into the home button as well, but it employed a swipe technique instead of the touch method that is apparently more popular and simpler to use. We’re still not completely convinced by fingerprint scanners on mobile devices, but in this day and age, it’s unsurprising to see people wanting to keep their data safe and mobile companies trying to capitalize on this by offering more security features. Despite using a new type fingerprint scanner, the range of features supported on the Galaxy S6 doesn’t look to be increasing, just supporting what was available on the Galaxy S5, including:
- Fingerprint Unlock: Verifies the user’s identity and unlocks the device.
- Web sign-in: Allows users to sign into websites using fingerprints.
- Verify Samsung Account: Verifies the user’s identity when purchasing content in Samsung services.
- Private Mode: It’s not specifically a fingerprint-exclusive feature, but allows user to choose fingerprint as an unlock method.
- Pay with PayPal: Allows users to make quick and secure payments via their PayPal account using their registered fingerprints.
