Samsung partners up to bring DRM protected HD media to the Galaxy Note

Those proud owners of the Galaxy Note are sure to be giddy about their purchase. The more I read about it, see it in action and hear about if from friends, the more I want one. Not necessarily for the S-Pen, drawing and note taking ability of it, but because of the gorgeous screen. Seriously, how can you not love the 1280 X 800 HD display? The only bothersome aspect of it for some, is the lack, or completely missing, HD content available to it from Samsung’s Media Hub. For those of you out of the loop, the Hub is Sammy’s location to offer such things as movies to rent and buy or TV shows. Currently you can snag a plethora of content at whichever option you choose, but only in a standard, or SD, format. While there are a handful of movies you can rent in the Market that are HD, the selection is limited.

None of this really matters if you have your own content and don’t plan to buy anything from anyone though. For the rest of the world that doesn’t mind renting a good movie, or even buying one for mobile use, HD quality is must have to truly use the device’s screen. Samsung has recently partnered up with Qualcomm’s StudioAccess and ARM’s TrustZone DRM systems to help address the DRM concerns of copyright holders of the film industry. When all is said and done, you will have access to “premium HD video content” via Media Hub on your Note, as well as any other device that can support it.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note featuring Snapdragon Processors by Qualcomm will provide
the highest quality HD viewing experience available on a mobile device

BARCELONA, Spain — February 27, 2012 Samsung and Qualcomm today announced that they will release the secure high-definition (HD) service utilizing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon StudioAccess and ARM’s TrustZone technologies. This service allows consumers to watch brilliant HD videos directly on their mobile device through Samsung Media Hub.

This secure HD service will be debuted on the 5.3″ HD Super AMOLEDâ„¢ display of the Samsung Galaxyâ„¢ Note, featuring a Snapdragon processor by Qualcomm. The Galaxy Note display offers 180 degree viewing angles and is one of the first mobile devices able to support HD resolution, making it the perfect fit for this cutting edge technology. The implementation of this new hardware will provide the ability to watch luminous, HD quality movies and TV shows through Samsung’s Media Hub directly on a mobile device. The Samsung Galaxy Note will be the first device to adopt this technology via a firmware update to be announced at a later date.

Samsung will be demoing the Snapdragon/TrustZone-enabled HD viewing service experience on the Samsung Galaxy Note at Mobile World Congress. Viewers will be able to see a side-by-side comparison of two devices, one enabled with this technology and one without, each playing a premium collection of HD-quality television shows, such as CSI and The Office, courtesy of CBS and NBC Universal.

Snapdragon StudioAccess technology provides end-to-end content protection that is on par with movie studios stringent security requirements. Snapdragon StudioAccess allows users to enjoy the newest movie titles, which previously were limited to physical medias or set-top boxes. It’s the latest example of security technology harnessed to expand content distribution, protect content owners’ rights and enhance the user experience.
