Samsung Quietly Taking Over And Set To Take On HTC As Top Smartphone Sales

HTC currently has 7% of smartphone sales and Samsung has less than 5%. Samsung is throwing everything they have into the Samsung Galaxy S, which has already launched in Europe and is expected to hit over 100 carriers, including the 4 major U.S. carriers. HTC has launched many devices that are selling really well, for example the Google Nexus One, HTC Desire, HTC Droid Incredible, and the HTC Evo just to name a few.

Don’t get me wrong, as you can see with the Galaxy S, Samsung has actually made a phone this year worth buying or at least one that could compete with HTC, but ever since this controversy with the Samsung Behold II update issue they have lost the trust of many consumers who are upgrading their device to the latest Sprint superphone, the HTC Evo.

One advantage for Samsung is the current issue HTC is having with the shortages of AMOLED displays that HTC purchases from Samsung to equip top devices like the HTC Droid Incredible, the HTC Desire and the Google Nexus One. This shortage is because Samsung is keeping their AMOLED displays for their Galaxy S which is keeping HTC from meeting their demand, which is why HTC is dropping the AMOLED display and heading for the Sony Super TFT LCD display this Fall.

With that said, it is still going to be very hard for Samsung to surpass HTC with smartphone sales anytime soon. Samsung needs more devices and more of a following whereas HTC has both.
