Skydroid: Windows 8 inspired Metro UI headed to Android in coming Months

Not a single Android owner out there can complain about the lack of customization’s available for our platform. You have everything from launchers, icons, themes, tweaks, mods and more readily available at your finger tips. Some Android users will bash, complain and generally reject anything that brings the look and feel of another OS to our Android community. The vast majority of users greatly enjoy it and welcome the challenge and hard work put into it though.

The project owner of WP7 for Android, TheRedDrake, has now started migrating into the next version of the UI. Calling it Skydroid, it will be inspired by Windows 8 Metro UI. We say inspired instead of a replica because the team in place is looking to bring the same style UI to Android and not copy the one that is already out there. Currently the project has 5 developers involved and should include about 20 various apps to give you a great look and feel. The app list currently is as follows:

)Dialer
)SMS
)Email
)Calendar
)People with IM and social
)Calculator
)Player
)Gallery
)Camera
)Browser
)Notes,
)Stock + Currency converter
)Meteo
)Alarm
)News
)File manager
)Settings
)Launcher

Personally, it never hurts to have options. If this project goes well and is implemented well then it should sell its self with minimal efforts. The team is fully expecting a version of it to available late March or April of this year. If you want to get involved in the building process, request certain features or app inclusions or simple keep tabs on it, then head over to TheRedDrake’s XDA page. Otherwise, we will try to keep track of it and let you know when you can try it out for yourself.
