Sling TV about to get a boost with Epix video-on-demand service being added in

Last week Dish made the Sling TV app available to the general public here in the US. The app brings along a packaged channel offering for streamers to access live TV on the go. The service offer up 11 basic channels like ESPN, TNT, Food Network, Cartoon Network and others for a base price of $19.99. From the base you can add in $5 a month for additional add-on packages and select a number of on-demand content as well. While cool, it still lacks a lot, primarily connectivity to Chromecast and other actual streaming devices. While I am not here to jump for joy at that addition making it to the service, I am here to let you know that Epix will be added to the mix.

Epix will be bringing in four new channels and over 2,000 on-demand movies to the Sling TV app. According to Business Wire, the terms cover all channels in the Epix portfolio including Epix, Epix 2, Epix 3 and Epix Drive-in.

Epix 1

“Sling TV is an innovative new way to deliver content to consumers who are looking for alternatives beyond traditional pay television,” said Mark Greenberg, president and CEO of EPIX. “From the very creation of EPIX, we have sought to capitalize on new technology to reach people with our movies where they want them, when they want them and how they want them. This is another exciting step forward with a great partner in that effort.”

The official announcement doesn’t mention a specific date for when it will be rolled in, nor does it mention anything about additional add-on or on-demand video pricing. Assuming the whole deal sticks to the current model I expect the Epix lineup to come in at $5 as a monthly add-on as well , with a per-title price tags for the on-demand catalog.
