Snaptic, makers of the recently reviewed 3banana app, have issued a challenge to developers: Get moving. In partnership with HopeLab and as part of their upcoming developer conference, they have a contest going until May 18, 2010:
Create an Android app that inspires and tracks physical movement.
What kind of app can you build to encourage people to get in motion without even thinking about exercise? How can movement be just as easy and fun as checking-in or updating a status?
The challenge is co-sponsored by HopeLab, a nonprofit organization focused on improving the health and quality of life of young people with chronic illness. One of the keys to fighting chronic illness is addressing the obesity epidemic, and HopeLab is intrigued by what mobile technology and mobile apps can do to get people on their feet and in motion, and in turn improve their general health.
The prizes aren’t too shabby. The grand prize is an all expenses paid trip to TED Global 2010 in Oxford, England July 12-16. Â Runner-up prizes include a Macbook Pro, Android phones, software, web hosting, and other un-named goodies. Interested? Here are the rules:
- Meet the challenge and build an Android app (.apk) that inspires and tracks physical movement
- Use a Snaptic intent or something from the Snaptic API
- App is already in the Android market? It must have under 5,000 downloads at the time of submission.
- If you’re under 18, we need you to get us a signed consent form.
- Register by May 18th, 2010, submit by May 21st, 2010!
