Crowdfunding campaigns seem to be hit and miss sometimes, but they are a great way for new products to get the lease on life that they may, or may not, deserve. We have all heard the horror stories and the success stories. No matter your personal experience or feelings, I like them. Even if it is to just see what ‘could be’ at some point in time. While this latest IndieGoGo campaign isn’t directly Android related, it is still very much in the realm of what many of our readers love, want and need in their life. Especially the adventurous outdoorsy types. Meet SunnyBAG’s new Action Case.
The Action Case is specifically design as a way to not only safely transport your GoPro, or other gadgets, but to also give them a charge thanks to the hopefully abundant sun. The Action Case measures in at 9.45 x 6.9 X 2.5 inches and weighs in at just over half a pound (empty). That makes it light, easy to carry and small enough to be useful and not cumbersome to take with you. The built-in solar charging panel delivers 3.15 watts of power in direct sunlight through to an internal USB port where you can connect a USB cable to charge your GoPro camera.
While the internals of the case are geared towards the GoPro, the case can carry and charge just about anything else you might need it to, like your phone, tablets, smartwatch or portable game console. Pretty much anything that can use a USB cable of some sorts to charge should work. In terms of charge time, the company states that the GoPro will charge in 100 minutes while a typical smartphone will charge in 200 minutes. That time will vary based on the phone model, internal battery size and a number of other factors of course. I love how they included Google glass in the charge list with a charge time of under an hour.
Like all campaigns, SunnyBAG’s is shooting for a set dollar amount in a short amount of time. The target goal is$30,000 by the end of December with the first backer price tag that nets you an Action Case for the first 100 being just $59. Then it jumps to $69 and goes up from there with additional perks like a SunnyBAG PowerStick that will charge a GoPro twice. SunnyBAG’s will retail the Action Case for $129 when they go to market.
Pretty cool little solar powered travel case really. I know the guys behind the Action Case will be at CES in January, you can bet I will be making a swing through of their booth to see one of these in person then. Â If you want to jump in the campaign, then just head over to the SunnyBAG Action Case IngieGoGo page to make your pledge.
