Android Wear looks like it is most definitely here to stay and although its first generation had a few teething issues, we’re excited to see what the second generation of devices brings to the table. Chief among these is the Moto 360 successor which will have big shoes to fill coming after one of the most popular Android Wear smartwatches to date. While we don’t know much about the device beyond a few alleged sightings, the codename of the Moto 360 successor is apparently now known – ‘Smelt’.
Not dissimilar to the original Moto 360, who’s codename was ‘Minnow’, the Moto 360 successor’s codename is also the name of a small fish, specifically the delta smelt (or Hypomesus transpacificus). This news drops thanks to an Android developer who noticed the appearance of a Motorola manufactured Android Wear device in the Chicago area, quite close to Motorola’s HQ in Illinois. Notably, apart from the codename, this smartwatch has a resolution of 360×360, marginally higher than the original Moto 360 and is running a “armeabi-v7a” processor. We’ll have to see if any developments appear in the near future.
