Sony Announces ‘Playstation Suite’ – Bringing PS1 Games to Android

In an announcement today by Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) brings good news for the upcoming Sony Play and possibly many other devices and tablets. The company stated that a new certified application called ‘Playstation Suite’ is on the horizon to bring back all the classic PS1 games and deliver them to Sony certified Android devices running Android 2.3.

SCE will work with manufacturers to “ensure the delivery of PlayStation quality experience across various devices.” That means the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play won’t be the only device to receive some love from PS1 Classics.

All devices that get the final certification will then have access to the Sony Playstation store. Which initially will be filled with original Playstation Classics. As great as that sounds, it gets better. Sony is also creating a new game development environment so developers can bring new content to the Playstation Suite. So not only will we most likely see all our favorite PS1 games, but we will likely see a whole slew of new games that were never done before.

SCE plans to have all of this running before the end of the calendar year. Hopefully its not to far past the launch of the Sony Ericsson Play.
