Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray available unlocked for U.S. Use

One of the downsides to the tech industry, especially when it comes to phones and tablets, is the lack of carrier support the U.S. sees. That leaves many great devices just out of reach for us, unless you are willing to go the extra mile and pick up what you desire unlocked and shipped in.

One of the newest devices announced by Sony Ericsson is the Xperia Ray. One of SE’s biggest selling points on some of their newer devices is the Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine. It offers quite a crystal clear image on your screen. The latest addition the Xperia line up offers a 3.3″ screen size 480 x 854, a 1 GHz processor, Android 2.3.4 and an aluminum frame. The device looks pretty slick and I am personally liking the new layout of the buttons at the bottom of the device.

The generic specs don’t sound all that impressive. It is a rather small screen size compared to some of the super devices that launching in the next 2 weeks. The processor is plenty powerful enough to power a device, but people love to hear dual-core and 1.2GHZ or 1.5GHz. After all, the general population runs off of what they hear and read, not how it actually performs.

So what makes this device stand out above the rest? The Reality Display is a big one, but more importantly is the camera. Sure the device has your typical rear and front facing cameras, they also offer one of the fastest shutter speeds on the market with some of the clearest pictures I have ever seen on a device. What really sets this device apart from the pack is the fact that the front facing camera is a 8.1MP with Exmor R for Mobile. Which, in my opinion, is amazing. I never understood the luxury of a FFC that was only 2MP and still having to turn you phone around for a good picture. That was kind of the idea behind the FFC.

All in all, it is a great looking phone and that 8.1MP FFC is just an outstanding addition. The device was recently made available unlocked via various locations on the web. You can do a little searching for your self, but Newegg does have the device in stock and available for $379.99. It comes in 4 colors, white, gold, pink and black.
