Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 Starts Hitting Shelves

For those of you that have been anticipating the launch of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 device which was announced nearly four months ago, you’ll be happy to know that they have started shipping the device. While this smaller version of the Xperia X10 is shipping with an outdated Android 1.6 (Donut) OS, SE promises an update to Android 2.1(Eclair) by the end of 2010.

Features of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 include:

  • Android 1.6
  • SE’s custom UI
  • 600MHz processor
  • 3 inch capacitive 320×480 (HVGA) display
  • 128 MB of memory on board
  • 1200mAh battery
  • 3.2 megapixel camera with fixed focus
  • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • Wi-Fi
  • A-GPS
  • Bluetooth connectivity

We have yet to see a high-end smartphone come from SE which doesn’t sit well with the tech savvy crowd. With an outdated OS, we’re curious to know just how many devices they plan on selling. Sony Ericsson really needs to rethink their strategy as far as mobile devices go, surely they realize Android 2.1 is roughly ten months old. It’s beginning to look like Dell and Sony Ericsson have the same development team. Check out the video below for a closer look at this device. Enjoy!
