Sony are preparing to bring another high end device to the market, with even better dust and water resistance, the Xperia ZR.
With an IP55/58 rating, this baby can take a swim in the shallow end (1.5m) for 30 mins and keep on going like nothing happened. Â Sure it’s not going to be as slim and gorgeous as the Xperia Z, but when you’ve got kids around (or you’re a lifeguard), you need substance over looks.
The spec sheet for the Xperia ZR is pretty good too; with a 4.6″ 720p display, 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro (Quad Core) processor, 2GB RAM and 8GB Storage with support for microSD, a 13MP Exmor Camera and 2,300 mAh battery.
So far Sony are the only OEM pushing “resistant” phones (though Samsung may be joining in) to the market, first with the Xperia Z, now the Xperia ZR, and with contracts mostly being 24 months these days, it’s a good way to ensure your device lasts long enough.
But I guess it mostly comes down to personal choice; do you want a bigger phone that can survive on it’s own, or do you want sleek and sexy that you can slap a case on when you need to?
