When it comes to wearable technology, we think glasses and smartwatches. Maybe in the future there will be necklaces and clothing that have some sort of technology built inside them, but Sony wants to take it a step further. Introducing the Smartwig.
Yes, you see this correctly. Sony submitted in application for the USPTO to have special wigs with sensors and computing technology built within them. As you can see from the image above, the chip would be retrofitted on the back of the head, and then that is about it. Not sure where Sony is going when comes to this idea. Seems very futuristic, but the future we would not want. I’m telling you, these companies want us to be robots. A passage from the application submitted explains a little more about it, but still we don’t really know what they are trying to achieve with it.
Wearable computing device, comprising a wig that is adapted to cover at least a part of a head of a user, at least one sensor for providing input data, a processing unit that is coupled to the at least one sensor for processing said input data, and a communication interface that is coupled to the processing unit for communicating with a second computing device. The at least one sensor, the processing unit and the communication interface are arranged in the wig and at least partly covered by the wig in order to be visually hidden during use.
It is interesting, but I can’t really see people sporting wigs just because it will act like some sort of mobile device. Let us know what you guys thin about this idea.
