Sony piloted its remote security service, my Xperia, early this year, but unfortunately used only the Nordics as their guinea pigs. Today, Sony is rolling the service out to Xperia owners worldwide. my Xperia’s purpose is to act as a locating app if or when you have displaced your most prized possession. Furthermore, it can help protect your personal information if this unfortunate event ever happens.
Taking advantage of the service is pretty simple; all you have to do is sign up on myxperia.sonymobile.com using your Google ID and once signed up, you’ll get access to several remote features, such as your phone’s location on a map, locking the phone and its data, sending a message to the phone, make the phone make sound to alert nearby persons, or as a last resort, delete internal and external SD data.
This seems like a pretty nifty service given that it addresses essentially all the worries we have if we ever lose our phone. I hope for the rest of us that other phone manufacturers pick up a similar idea or Sony extends its service to other phones. Who would like a service like my Xperia for their own device? Let us know in the comments.
