Streaming Media West could be the event Google TV 2.0 has been waiting For

All of us Logitech Revue users out there have been impatiently waiting for the latest Honeycomb update to finally land on our devices. We have seen a few leaked builds that have progressed fairly nicely and really make the UI pop out at you. The update offers a tablet like experience on your big screen with access to the Android market ultimately bringing you Android content to your TV with out the need to hook up your phone to it first. Now there is some speculation that the update might finally be close to release.

Global Head of Content for Google TV, Donagh O’Malley, recently spoke at an industry event where he made mention that the Honeycomb update was about three-to-four weeks away. That puts the update out about the first part of November. Coincidentally, the Streaming Media West event is scheduled for November 8th. Guess who will be there with an hour of time scheduled? Mr. O’Malley of course and the session is labeled as Google TV Demo: The New World of Smart TVs. Things are looking up aren’t they? We can also toss in the fact that Google recently released the final SDK components for developers to finish up the applications that they had been working on.

The streaming Media West event seems like an opportune time to unveil the full Honeycomb Google experience. With all the major players in that industry scheduled to be there like Hulu, CBS Interactive, Roku and many others. They wouldn’t dare get lost in the lime light that is All Things Digital if the Galaxy Nexus and Ice Cream Sandwich make their appearance there. I am betting all the combinations mentioned above bring us the final look at what should be the best update for Google TV yet.

We aren’t sure if the update will start rolling out during the session, shortly after or a week later. If things play out right though, we should all see that update by mid November.
