Super Stickman Golf kills my Angry Bird Space Addiction

Ok, I was never a huge fan of Angry Birds. In the very beginning I found my self playing quite a bit, after the countless themed versions and the movie edition (Rio), I lost interest. When Angry Birds Space hit, I got sucked in for quite a while. The new super powers and change in-game play with zero gravity was a home run for Rovio. I haven’t found a game since that can keep my interest for longer than a few minutes at a time, until last night. That is when I came across a game called Super Stickman Golf.

If a game or application has ‘Stickman’ in the title I am immediately drawn to it. I have a weird addiction to stickman games. They are usually clean, simple and a whole ton of fun. So when I saw this game and the developer name I knew I had to take a look. The developers name is Noodlecake Studios Inc. It sounds like some crazy cooking creation I would try out to see if it was any good. It isn’t Tiger Woods 2012. You aren’t going to be competing against big name golfers for the masters. Super Stickman Golf takes a completely different approach to golfing.

It combines real golfing with miniature golf and adds in some insanely challenging physic based puzzles. Sounds out of this world doesn’t it? The graphics are superb and game play is presented in a side scrolling style game. The object of the game is like any other normal golf game, get the damn ball in the tiny ass hole. This is easier said then done though. The first few holes on the beginner courses are pretty straight forward. They are merely warm up holes really. You soon find your self staring at a hole and planning your next shot extremely carefully. You see, there are your average water hazards and sand traps. Water is bad and sand is actually helpful. Instead of just continuously shooting a ball across the screen at a hole avoiding traps, you will need to maneuver your ball through obstacles to a hole that is placed above or below you.

There is so much more to the game than aiming and whacking a ball as hard as you can. Planning the angle and power is key to shooting under par, but that is only the beginning though. You can take a certain number of powered up super balls with you on each course. For instance, a Mulligan ball, a sticky ball or an ice ball to name a few. Each one does something special and many of them are necessary to complete the higher level courses. Oh, did I mention there are conveyor belts to content with too?

Super Stickman Golf offers more than any other game I have ever found on the Play Store, especially for free. There are 7 unlockable clubs, 33 courses and over 290 holes to get through. Leaving the replay value extremely high. I have already logged around 5 hours in between last night and this morning. You don’t have to be a golf fan of love the game. If you love puzzles,  physics and figuring things out one step-at-a-time, then you are bound to love this game. Be warned, it is addicting.

Game controls are super super easy to master. Use the arrow keys to adjust your aim and hit the ‘Go!’ button to start the power meter and then again when it is where you want it to be. You can pinch to zoom to see the entire whole and look around by just dragging your finger across the screen.

The game only sort of fails in one area and I know this was done on purpose. If you totally ruin your score on one hole out of the nine per course, you can’t replay just that hole. The only option is to restart the course. That is a bit frustrating, but that is also the point of having the power ups. The Mulligan will save your butt often. Just remember you only get so many per nine holes, so use them wisely. After completing a course, over or under par, you can go in and practice the one that gave you the most trouble. This lets you figure out the best power-up combinations and route to take to get to the pin. Yes, there are multiple route’s you can take on many holes.

If you love Angry Birds or any other puzzle strategy style game, Super Stickman Golf is a must have. Feel free to click or scan the handy QR code below to pop into the Play Store to pick it up.
