Surprise, surprise: The HTC One M9 Plus is now official, brings back the Duo Camera

As expected, today’s HTC event has announced that the HTC One M9 Plus is now official. The heavily leaked device has been on the radar pretty much since the HTC One M9 was released, and has somewhat undermined the M9’s release seeing as the M9 Plus can be seen as superior in several areas. Chief among the differences afforded to the new device include the Duo Camera, an omission from the M9, but has found its home on the M9 Plus. The M9 Plus also boasts a different, but apparently just as powerful, processor and a Quad HD display which was notably absent on the M9. Other features include:

  • Android 5.0 Lollipop with HTC ‘China Sense’
  • Dimensions: 150.99 x 71.99 x 9.61mm
  • 5.2-inch LCD display with 1440 x 2560-pixel (Quad HD) resolution
  • MediaTek MT6795T octa-core chip clocked at up to 2.2GHz
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 32GB of internal storage
  • 20MP main camera, ‘UltraPixel’ front cam

HTC One M9 Plus is now officialOverall, the M9 Plus, as its name would suggest, does appear to be a better device than the M9 announced just a month ago, however if you’re about to cancel your M9 preorder in order to get this instead, you might want to just wait a second – the M9 Plus is only going to be available in China. In fact, the fingerprint scanner embedded in the new physical home button is almost exclusively going to be used to access the AliPay Wallet cashless payment system that is so popular in Asia right now. All the same, it is probably a little disappointing for the HTC-faithful that HTC released two similar devices so close to each other and offered the ‘better’ one to only one market.
