T-Mobile G2 Fails to sell. G2 users to be offered myTouch 4G Slide as Replacements!

One of our guys called in to T-Mobile because they had a problem with their myTouch 4G and started asking the Customer Service Representative (CSR) what they knew about the T-Mobile G2 going End-Of-Life (EOL).  Apparently the CSR first denied any knowledge, until she was challenged with more information about the leaks and road maps for upcoming T-Mobile devices.

She started explaining that the T-Mobile G2 had sold in much lower quantities than expected so they where being phased out and the replacement stocks they have are extremely limited.  People who have issues with their G2’s will have the option of replacing their faulty devices with the upcoming myTouch 4G Slide as soon as it’s released.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me and a big surprise that the G2 didn’t do very well for T-Mobile.  She started to explain; this is the reason why we haven’t seen many commercials for the G2 on television and in print.  I did have a G2 for a short period of time, but I was so unimpressed with the hinge mechanism that I returned it for a myTouch 4G.

Now you have to remember that this information is coming from a T-Mobile CSR who are sometimes not the most knowledgeable people about the strategic direction of T-Mobile, but you never know, we may have just hit on someone who really knows what they are talking about.

Are T-Mobile getting ready to EOL  the myTouch 4G too?

She also went on to say that the myTouch 4G will be phased out by a new device expected in October. What are we expecting in October!  It’s not the myTouch 4G Slide as that is slated for release in July.  Maybe something else is coming too?

We have no real way of validating this information, so you have to take it all as rumor.  I’ll do my best to try and confirm any of this, but don’t hold your breath.  No company likes to admit failures, and the G2 was supposed to be a big deal as the first real follow up to the highly successful T-Mobile G1.
