The Galaxy S II launch may have been slightly over shadowed only a few weeks later by the announcement of the Galaxy Nexus. Does that in anyway detract from the awesomeness that it is? Nope. Not that long ago we reported a new kernel that hit the development community that pushed the device to 1.8GHz, aptly named Hercules. Using this same kernel as the base, XDA member zedomax has pushed the limits yet again. He has managed to get the T-Mobile Galaxy S II to recognize and be capable of using full fledged USB devices connected externally.
Why would this be important and also very cool? Well, it is the first time a phone has ever been able to support such a feature. Of course there are many tablets with such support already. With this handy little addition to Hercules Kernel, you are able to connect USB Flash Drives, external HD’s (that have an external power source), Keyboards and even a mouse. It is all pretty awesome if you ask me.
If you are interested in giving it whirl, feel free to head on over to zedomax’x XDA thread for the full rundown.
