As of this weekend you will no longer see discounted prices on tablets at
AT&T with new contracts. Not that AT&T has an extremely impressive tablet line up to begin with, but still, no more price cuts. Verizon made a similar move last month and have opted for new and existing customers to snag a tablet at full cost and add it to their shared data plans. Ultimately this isn’t a terrible way to go. No one really wants to sign a 2-year contract for just data on a tablet. Many of us stick to WIFI when possible because the speed is better and we don’t have to worry about burning up our data limits.
Are you at all surprised they went this route also? We sure aren’t. While tablets are great, it seems the market for them is greater as add-on instead of separate accounts with ETF’s. Many of us already buy tablets at full price and tether our phones to them when mobile if we need it.
