Take a virtual tour in Street View with Google Cardboard

Are you one of the 500 thousand people who happen to have a Google Cardboard sitting in their home? If you are, then you might be pretty interested to learn that Google’s Street View ability in Google Maps also harbors a trigger to take that flat street view image and make it a virtual world to look around with Google Cardboard.

Accessing the Cardboard view of Street View is as simple as opening up a location that offers up Street View. Once opened, double-tap the look-around icon and then take a peek at the locations through your Google Cardboard.

I went off on a little look around the Eiffel Tower to give it a shot. Works out pretty well. I handed to my wife and told her, “Here ya go, this is Paris. About as close as we will ever get. Would you like a refill on your coffee.” She wasn’t as amused by it as I was.

Feel free to give the world a look over when ever you have a chance. If you don’t happen to have a set yet, there are a number of vendors providing ready-to-use kits ranging from $10.99 to $30 depending on your taste over on Amazon right now. Some even have Prime shipping and should still make it to your door before Christmas. Could be a fun stocking stuffer. Be sure t circle the Google Cardboard G+ page, it looks like they are might be getting a little more active now and I am sure the more people circling them will give them more incentive to share more tips, tricks and apps for the ultra affordable VR gear.
