The 12 Things That Broke On That Recent OTA Update For The HTC Evo

Normally, users are mostly impressed with an OTA update, whether it be used to fix problems that users were previously experiencing or to add new features. The only result that transpired after Sprint’s latest update was disaster! There were many reports of HTC Evo’s getting “bricked.” For the ones that didn’t receive dead devices, a Wi-Fi fix and some security patches were in the update. Sprint and HTC quickly retracted the update and informed the world on necessary action to fix your “bricked” Evo. After a quick fix, Sprint and HTC sent out the update once again. Here is a list of the result of the latest push:

  • Bricks your device
  • Requires you to reinstall some widgets
  • ShootMe app no longer working (this was most likely address by those security patches)
  • Missing stock Android launcher
  • Some sounds programmed incorrectly
  • Synchronization is automatically turned off
  • Missing Android wallpapers
  • Unreliable 4G connections
  • Weather app malfunctions
  • Wi-Fi issues from the Unrevoked root method is not working
  • Bookmarks are linked incorrectly
  • Hard resets randomly

We have received word that the battery life has improved, as well as, touch screen responsiveness and better Wi-Fi strength. Maybe I’ll rethink my future Evo purchase. There are plenty of people out there that haven’t had any issues with their HTC Evo after the update, so your guess is as good as mine.
