Many of you might remember that
PowerBag was the big to do at CES. We all had one, we all wanted one and it saved the show for a lot of guys on the floor. Who ever said “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” was wrong. Timbuk2 and their line of amazing bags, packs, totes and more have been around for quite some time. Their bags are top of the line in quality and ability. I don’t think I have ever seen so many pockets and places to stash things.
Their latest line and design is certainly aimed to please those of us that are always on the go. They partnered with Joey Energy to create a new product that we knew you would love to hear about. Think PowerBag but redesigned and better. Each of the two bags have their own unique little quirks. One is a laptop style bag and one is a regular backpack style bag. We will give you those details in a minute.
What makes these new bags great is the Joey. In simplest terms, it is just a battery power bank to charge your device with. It does quite a bit more though. The battery is smart, when you plug a device into it recognizes the type of device and charges it twice as fast as a direct wall outlet. No odd messages on your tablet or phone giving you error messages about the charger. Rather than having a custom built-in set of cables, the Joey relies on you, the user, to provide the cable you need. All with a simple USB plug. It is button free and needs no tending too, it just works. The Joey also has a unique pass through ability that lets you charge the battery bank and your phone at the same time from one single outlet. Unlike some of the competition, it charges from any Micro USB charger. Don’t forget the all important LED lights that let you know how much charge your Joey has left in it. The Joey is also fully removable. You don’t have to carry it in the bag all the time and it looks killer just sitting out while you charge. It will charge up a typical phone 1.5 to 2 times before it needs charging. With the rapid charge ability I would much rather go from 5% to 55% in half the time than have a larger power bank accessible. Another kicker to the Joey over traditional battery banks is the tech that helps hold the charge for longer periods of time. Meaning your Joey will be there to offer you power even if you haven’t used it or charged it in a month.
As for the two bag types? Well, they have some pretty great features as well. Not something you thought you would hear about a bag, right? The first bag is the
Timbuk2 Power Communte Laptop Messanger bag.  It is  TSA compliant with a quilted/tricot lined laptop compartment that fits most 15†laptops. That just means that it has a soft spot to stow your laptop that opens up for clearing through security without the need to pull it all the way out. There are dedicated pockets for the Joey, a tablet and your laptops cord and powerbrick. Not to mention more pockets and cubbies then you will know what to do with. Trust me, I lost things in our Timbuk2 Q bags a few times.
The second bag is more of a standard backpack style. It is called the Timbuk2 Power Q. Kinda rolls off your tongue. It is essentially just like their Q Laptop Backpack, but with a dedicated pouch for the Joey and a few hidden cable management holes. Again, too many pockets to know what to do with really. A very interesting aspect is that the bag has a side zipper to access your laptop, along with a handle on the side to carry it like a laptop bag. They call it the “Swing Around” style. Lets you swing the bag off one shoulder to unzip it and access your laptop. This one fits a 17″ MacBook Pro like a champ. The Power Q is also TSA compliant to help you avoid one more inconvenience at the airport.
Both bags have some great laptop, tablet and device pockets that are Tricot-lined to give your devices a soft and scratch free place to ride. You should really take a look at the new line and at Timbuk2 in general if you are in the market for a great bag for any need. You can check them out at Timbuk2.com or REI. Links below for you guys.
