Titanium Backup Pro Welcomes New ADB Pleasures
Hello fellow Androids and Androidettes,
I’ve had a short list of apps that I just couldn’t do without, Titanium Backup (Tibu) and Tibu Pro are always at the top of my list.  I am what you could call a crackflasher.  When on nightlies I flash everything thrown out, when there is a delay in the builds I am following I try every other Rom I can find.  It is an addiction I am proud to have and I know there are many out there, probably you reading this, that share my affinity and addiction, it’s ok, you can admit it.  LOL.  Ok, with this new update rolled out recently there is new ADB (Android Debugging Bridge) features available to the rooted and non-rooted.  Yes, I said non-rooted, and while I know you can’t imagine not being rooted, there are still one or two Android users that aren’t rooted.
As you know, or may not know, Tibu allows you to take a snap shot of the current app and app data setup on your device at any point in time, it then saves it in an XML format for quick access but will also save in a format that can be pushed to the device via ADB. While Tibu itself doesn’t have the “adb backup” feature built in, it does “support” it. That said, you, the user will need to create your backup using ADB, after you have ADB set up on your computer this is what you do:
adb backup -f MyBackup.bin -apk -all
If the backup process stalls, try using .ab (default) extension:
adb backup -f MyBackup.ab -apk -all
This will create a backup “package” somewhat like how nandroid creates just ONE package. After that, once the device is rooted, this package can be used with Titanium Backup just like as if it was made with Titanium Backup. Check out what the developers at Titanium Track, the creators of Titanium Backup, have to say about their newest additions to the Tibu family:
- [PRO] Added the ability to restore apps/data from an ADB backup file. These backups can be made *without* root on Android 4.0+ by using the “adb backup†command from a computer, and can be restored with Titanium Backup once you have root. This is especially helpful on HTC devices that perform a factory reset when unlocking the bootloader. Both regular and encrypted (password protected) ADB backups are supported.
- [PRO] Improved “Market Doctor†and “Force attach to Market†features to properly repair some broken links that previously required the use of “Destroy all Market linksâ€.
- Improved welcome screen: hitting a gauge will open the “App storage use†screen.
- Fixed display glitch when restoring “data only†from a “.TiBkp†backup.
- Updated translations.
